A master print of A CO Railfan’s Dream

I really like this digital-meets-film collage from earlier this year, A CO Railfan’s Dream.

This one, to be precise.

A CO Railfan’s Dream. Nikon Df camera (37 images), Pentacon Six TL with Kodak Portra 800 film (3 images), both cameras using Meyer Optik Görlitz Orestegor 300 f/5.6 lens. Photo (c) 2025 Chuck Miller, all rights reserved.

But I want to do something extra to it.

And by “extra” – I have an idea.

I purchased some laser printer transparency sheets, which will allow me to use a photocopier or a laser printer to transfer my photos onto clear, flexible plastic.

Now for something to give it that extra shine. A “reflection,” shall we say.

A trip to Lowe’s – and I purchased some mirrored glass. Oh, and a couple of equal sized panes of clear glass.

Then a trip to the frame shop to purchase some frame rails – two 18″ rails and two 30″ rails. Along with hanging wire and other necessaries.

I printed the black-and white background onto some 11×17 transparency sheets, and applied them to the mirror.

I then sandwiched the film by laying a clear piece of glass over the film.

Now … let’s add some pop here. I printed out the three film frames – the diamond-angled ones that show the train crossing the bridge.

I placed them on the clear glass. Then I added another layer of glass on the top.

Added the frame rails and the hanging wire. Then tried to pick this thing up.

Did I mention that three panes of glass – plus one of them being a mirror – is hella heavy? Yeah, it is.

But after I caught my breath … I finally hung the framed piece on the wall.

And took a picture.

Had to take a few photos just to keep myself out of the mirrored frame.

But here’s the final result.

Yes, that is a brown door reflected in the mirrored glass. Ignore it.

So now I have a much better and more visually stunning rendition of A CO Railfan’s Dream.

This will work for me.

Especially for Competition Season 2026.
